Tour de Galicica

Perhaps the most famous cycling tour in the Prespa region is the "Tour de Galicica", a recreational tour that is organized once a year, during the month of June. The tour guides the participants through some of the most beautiful areas in Prespa and the National Park Galicica. Details: Tour de Galicica is 71 km long. It has a total level of 1930 m. The first half of this tour is asphalt, while the second half is earth. The starting point is the center of Resen (885 meters above sea level). From here go to Stenje, climb to Galicica where beautiful views of Prespa and Lake Prespa open and turn to the former ski slopes (1508 meters above sea level). This is where the asphalt ends and continues along the ground through the karst fields "Suvo Pole", "Asan Jura" and "Xhafa". At mv Asan Jura, which represents half of the trail, it takes 30 minutes. break. The landscape in these places is mostly flat and great for driving through colorful meadows enriched with flocks of butterflies. It continues to the East, where you drive on small uphills and downhills that alternate. Certain short sequences require pushing. At the exit from NP Galicica at a place called Crven Kamen begins a descent that is about 12 km long. In a place with a length of 70 m the slope exceeds 10%, so for less experienced cyclists it is safest to push the bikes. It passes by the monastery of St. John, continues down and goes out on the asphalt near the village. Painful on the road Resen- Painful. The last 5 km are paved on the asphalt to the starting point in Resen. Tour de Galicica requires good preparation and previous experience on off-road trails. It is mandatory to wear a helmet and a bicycle. The only downside is the shortage of drinking water that could be replenished while driving, so it is necessary to carry at least 2l of water.
