Path 2: Malovishta – St. Ana – Slivnica Monastery
The walk starts from the central part of the village Malovishta, to where a local asphalt road leads through the village Kazani with the highway Bitola - Resen.
The direction of movement that you continue is east - west, through the central cobbled street in the village. In about 5 - 10 you pass the church of St. Petka, the most important cultural monument in this settlement.
In continuation of the path, you soon leave the last houses of the village and continue to the monastery of St. Ana. The road continues along the bridge over which you cross the stream.
The hike to the monastery takes place on a well-visible mountain path surrounded by a dense beech forest. That is why you will notice the lodgings of the monastery only when you arrive directly next to them. Depending on the speed of the walk, this section lasts from 40 minutes to about 1 hour.
To go to the church of the monastery you will have to continue moving west for another 500 meters, counted from the lodgings. Staying in this complex is especially pleasant in the summer when you have the opportunity to cool off with the clear and cold water from the main monastery fountain.
From the monastery of St. Ana continues the road again through a beech forest and through a rather steep hill climbs to the ridge of the mountain and to the locality which is known among the locals under the toponym Kodro. It is a wide and long unforested, but grassy area that stretches along the ridge of the mountain. From the monastery of St. Ana will not walk to the locality of Kodro for more than an hour during the walk.
From this location, before moving to the Prespa part of the mountain there is an opportunity to visit another church in the vicinity of Malovishta. It is a temple dedicated to the holiday Voznesenie Hristovo or Spasovden which is located at an altitude of 2000 meters.
It can be reached when you head from the locality of Kodro along the marked path which through the ridge called Chun, leads to the north and which with the route placed just below the ridge of the mountain will take you to the church in about an hour.
From this dominant location, you can go down a very steep path back to the village Malovishta for about 1.5 hours, or, again along the ridge of the mountain and the locality Kodro to move to the Prespa part enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Prespa Lakes.
You soon enter the forest road, through which the movement from Kodro to the Slivnica Monastery continues to the south. For all the time that should last about 3 hours, the walk takes place through areas overgrown with forest, and only instead smaller meadows overgrown with ferns open.
Similar to the monastery in front of St. Ana, you will see the buildings here only when you get close to them. In the past, the monastery had several gates through which the believers entered depending on which part of the mountain they came from. They were also named after the famous villages of Kurbinovo, Malovishta and Slivnica. In the eastern part of the monastery there was the gate of the people from Malovishta, as a kind of testimony to the long tradition that this path through the mountain has.
The presence in the Slivnica Monastery is desirable to be used for visiting the church of St. Gjorgji above the village of Kurbinovo, the most important preserved cultural monument in the region.
To the church of St. Gjorgji (1072 meters above sea level) we can go down the forest road coming from Kodro, and then climb again to the Slivnica Monastery, or vice versa, from the Slivnica Monastery (1300 meters above sea level) for about an hour to go down to the church of St. Gjorgji above Kurbinovo.
