Evla

The village of Evla is located in the western part of the Prespa Valley at the foot of Mount Galicica. It is five kilometers away from Resen, and is connected to the city by an asphalt road. The settlement is spread on a flat area at an altitude of 925 meters. The area of the settlement covers an area of 26.1 km2.

During the Turkish-Ottoman rule in Prespa, the government decided that the village of Evla would be the seat of their bey. Satisfied with the living conditions, he decided to build a large house for himself and his family - a tower with high balconies located at the entrance of the village.

According to numerous historical data, it is evident that the village of Evla is an old settlement. Also interesting are the data that speak of the most difficult period of the life of the population. Namely, during the Ilinden Uprising in 1903, an armed company from the village of Evla, actively participated in the fight against the Turkish army. For these reasons, after the failure of the uprising, as a sign of revenge, the village was completely burned. The population retreated to the west in the dense forest on Mount Galicica to protect themselves from the reprisals.

After the withdrawal of the Ottoman Empire from the Balkans, the surviving population, guided by the feeling of free life in their area, organized and in a short period the settlement was rebuilt. Thus, the interrupted function of life in the village of Evla was restored.
